Mount Meru, often overshadowed by its more famous neighbor Kilimanjaro, is a majestic and lesser-known stratovolcano located in northern Tanzania, within Arusha National Park. Rising to an elevation of 4,566 meters (14,980 feet), it is the second-highest mountain in Tanzania and the fifth-highest in Africa.
Though not as tall as Kilimanjaro, climbing Mount Meru is considered more technically challenging due to its steep ridges and narrow pathways. However, it requires no technical climbing gear, making it accessible to experienced hikers and adventurous travelers.
The most popular route to the summit is the Momella Route, which typically takes 3 to 4 days. The ascent provides a rewarding experience with diverse ecological zones, from savannah and montane forest to alpine desert.
The final push to the summit—Socialist Peak—starts at night, offering breathtaking views at sunrise. On clear days, climbers are treated to a spectacular view of Mount Kilimanjaro in the distance.
Fewer Crowds: Unlike Kilimanjaro, Mount Meru sees significantly less foot traffic, allowing for a more serene and personal experience with nature.
Wildlife Encounters: Trekkers often spot wild animals en route, making it one of the few trekking peaks with such encounters.
Acclimatization: Many climbers use Meru as a warm-up and acclimatization hike before attempting Kilimanjaro.
Stunning Scenery: From thick rainforests to volcanic craters and panoramic vistas, Meru offers a visually rewarding journey.
This package involves a 4 days/ 3 nights in Mount Meru.
